Henry Huntington created these Botanical Gardens in 1903. These magnificent
150 acres with lush lawns, statuary, tempiettos, and contemplation
benches. A vast collection of over 15,000 kinds of plants.

desert, Japanese, jungle, palm, subtropical,
lily ponds, herb, & Australian gardens.
With a Zen and Bonsai court, art

WRIGLEY MEMORIAL AND BOTANICAL GARDEN
Catalina Island

In memory of William Wrigley Jr., who lived from 1861 to 1932. Best known as
the founder of the largest manufacturer of chewing gum in the world.
The garden is ledgendary.with its magnificent views of Avalon
Bay and the Wrigley Memorial Monument the centerpiece of
the Garden. The idea and planning of the garden
came from Mr. Wrigley's wife Ada in 1935.
The temperate marine climate lends
show cases plants from every
corner of the world.
37.85 acres. With special emphasis on California island endemic plants.
Many plants grow nowhere else in the world and are extremely rare, and
many on the Endangered Species list. Eight Catalina endemics grow only
on Santa Catalina Island. Noteable the rare Cataline Ironwood.

Special need visitors phone (310) 510 2288 Open daily 8 AM to 5 PM year round.
Adult Admission is $5, children under 12 are free. Getting There: 1 & 1/2 mi
up Avalon Canyon Road; passing the Golf Course; the village ballpark, & the
Hermit Gulch campground.
CENTRAL CALIFORNIA GARDENS
FILOLI GARDENS
Woodside, California

An enchanted 654 acre estate, 30 miles south of San Francisco. A magnificent
Georgian Mansion sits amoungst splendid gardens. A rare opportunity
for guided tours are available, by reservation, Tues - Sat.
This is a two-hour tour led by a docent through both
the mansion & gardens. Make tour resev.
Self-guided tours Tues - Sat 10am
to 3:30pm. last admission
at 2:30 pm. no resev

Guided Nature Hikes are available, by reservation, on Saturdays at 10:00 am.
The hike covers roughly 3 miles of trails (aprox 2 1/2 hrs.
Nature Docents describe wildlife, plants, and the
endangered species, & historical background.
A delightful light lunch at the Quail's Nest Café on the Filoli grounds
or a box lunch. A perfect respite between tours and strolling.
Visit the Garden Shop, also on grounds at Filoli.
