San Francisco Victorian Hotels

Lodging Accommodations in Classic Victorian Hotels

A stay in one of San Francisco's famous Victorian's is truely the most extraordinary way
to capture the magic of San Francisco. The heyday of the Victorian is
not over here. Both visitors to the city and it's residents
cherished these 'painted ladies' (as they are called).
These stately mansions are the pride
of San Francisco!

"greatest painted lady in the world" by Elizabeth Pomada and

This large Victorian townhouse on Steiner Street was commissioned by
Oregon shipping magnate, Daniel B. Jackson, in 1892. Designed by
architect William H. Armitage, the mansion was built with
the three adjacent apartment buildings on Golden Gate
Avenue, known as the "Seattle Block". Armitage,
born and trained in England, & one of San
Francisco's leading architects.

Holds the California Heritage Council's 1989 Award for
The Best Restoration of a Victorian House in California.

The Shohet family purchased the Chateau Tivoli in 1997. They continue
to operate it as a Bed & Breakfast, and have added classic, authentic
furnishings and improved services to make sure that it remains one of
the "greatest painted ladies" of them all. We do highly recommend it
