The tiny hamlet of Elk is a place where the rugged beauty of the North Coast is most exceptional.
It is south of the village of Mendocino where there are many shops, galleries & restaurants.
But if beauty is what you want, Elk is the place to come. A place of dramatic scenery
along the two lane road called Scenic Highway 1. A trip that is known worldwide
as a 'not to be missed' California road trip! And well worth the 3 1/2
hour drive from San Francisco to Elk in Mendocino County.
Personally recommended Lodging
The Elk Cove Inn & Spa
A treasured Mendocino County bed & Breakfast Inn
Perched on a cliff above a mile long stretch of unspoiled beach. The Inn
originally built as a Lumber Baron's beach retreat hideaway. It
still offers understated elegance and comfort to travelers
seeking dramatic beauty and exceptional lodging.
Built at the turn of the century for a
Lumber baron's retreat.
"I last visited Elk Cove Inn in 2004 on an all to short business trip to the North Coast.
I just had time to drop by for a tour of the inn. The owner Elaine Bryant is a
hostess who has been in the hospitality profession many years and knows
the wants and needs of travelers and provides them generously.
